Objectives
To provide a well-rounded and comprehensive education to students, while providing a safe and nurturing environment after regular school hours.
Methodology
The Ganztagsschulen methodology focuses on providing a high quality education that goes beyond the core academic subjects and fosters the holistic development of students. In other words, it is a holistic education that seeks to develop students' knowledge, skills and social and emotional competences.
To achieve this goal, the Ganztagsschulen combine educational, recreational and childcare activities after the regular school day. Students have access to a wide range of extracurricular activities, which may include sports, music, art, languages, tutoring and other activities that foster the development of individual skills and talents.
The methodology also focuses on the active participation of students in their own learning process. Teachers use modern pedagogical approaches and interactive teaching techniques, which allow students to learn at their own pace and with greater autonomy.
In addition, the Ganztagsschulen place great emphasis on collaboration between students, teachers and parents. Constant communication and feedback are essential to ensure the success of the methodology and to involve parents in the educational process of their children.

Enablers
The commitment to the Ganztagsschulen makes it possible to move towards the personalisation of learning and educational pathways, better integrating the heterogeneity of the student body and giving it real value.
Full-time education has also favoured cohesion and inclusion among pupils, by offering more educational experiences that encourage pupils, in their diversity, to learn to live together and cooperate.
Similarly, Ganztagsschulen have facilitated the opening of schools to the social, cultural and business fabric of their surroundings.
The all-day school is attended by all pupils of the school. It offers the opportunity to adapt the pedagogical concept to the needs of all children and young people. Breaks, leisure activities and lessons can be flexibly scheduled throughout the day. In this way, the rigid, traditional school rhythm can be counterbalanced by a flexible daily and weekly rhythm that corresponds to health findings and takes into account an age-appropriate movement impulse, the ability to concentrate, the desire to learn and the need for relaxation. It is a matter of alternating learning and leisure activities.
As far as families are concerned, there is a greater professional-family conciliation.
Barriers
Although the Ganztagsschulen in Germany have been welcomed by many, they have also faced some difficulties in their implementation and execution. Some of the most common difficulties are:
- Lack of resources: Implementing Ganztagsschulen can be costly, especially in terms of additional staff and materials needed to provide childcare and extracurricular activities. Lack of resources has been a constraint for many schools in implementing full-time programmes.
- Lack of parental support: Some parents are not convinced that Ganztagsschulen are the best option for their children and prefer a traditional school schedule. Lack of parental support may limit the ability of schools to implement full-time programmes.
- Coordination problems: Coordinating the schedules of students, staff and external service providers can be complicated and requires careful planning. Lack of coordination can negatively affect the quality and effectiveness of full-time programmes.
- Resistance of educational staff: Some teachers and professors may resist the idea of working in a Ganztagsschule due to the additional demands involved in the full-time programme, which may affect the quality of education offered.
- Difficulties in evaluation: Evaluating the success of full-time programmes can be complicated due to the large number of variables involved. Identifying and measuring the outcomes and impact of the full-time programme is a challenge that can make it difficult to make informed decisions.
Grade of linkage with the Safe Education Model
Ganztagsschulen have the potential to improve the attachment and bonding between students and teachers. By offering more time to interact with students, teachers can establish closer and more meaningful relationships with them. In addition, students may feel more comfortable and confident in school, which can also improve their relationship with their peers and teachers.
In addition, full-time programmes often provide opportunities for students to work together on projects and extracurricular activities, which can foster collaboration and teamwork. This in turn can help strengthen the sense of community and belonging in the classroom.
However, it is important to keep in mind that the quality of bonding and attachment in the classroom depends to a large extent on the quality of interpersonal relationships between students and teachers, as well as on the culture of the school itself. Therefore, the implementation of the Ganztagsschulen must be carefully planned and executed to ensure that a positive school culture and high quality education is fostered in all aspects.
Grade of linkage with the purpose of Let's Care
Ganztagsschulen can contribute to reducing dropout and/or failure rates by providing students with a more complete and enriching educational environment. By offering extracurricular activities and after-school tutoring, students can receive additional support in their learning and may have more opportunities to improve their skills and knowledge. In addition, the Ganztagsschulen environment can foster greater student participation and a sense of community, which can increase their motivation and commitment to education.
Grade of evidence about impact and political relevance
The results of numerous studies show that, in general, students in Ganztagsschulen perform better academically than students in regular schools. There are also indications that students in Ganztagsschulen have fewer social behaviour problems, such as aggression and antisocial behaviour. In addition, several studies find that Ganztagsschulen students who participated in extracurricular activities performed better academically and had fewer social behaviour problems than students who did not participate in these activities.

Report Ganztaggschulen (Overall, the results of the study suggest that Ganztagsschulen can have a positive impact on the social and educational development of students, which may help to reduce behavioural problems and improve their academic performance.)
Reproducibility
The Ganztagsschulen teaching model is highly replicable and has been implemented in many other countries besides Germany. Many European countries have adopted similar models of all-day schools, including Austria, Switzerland, Denmark and Sweden, among others.
In the United States, after-school enrichment and after-school programmes have also been used to provide students with a more complete and enriching learning environment, although implementation of full-day Ganztagsschulen models has not always been successful.
