Objectives
To support the integration of Roma children in early primary education, through the use of multiliteracies and multimodalities for language learning.
Methodology
The methodology used in the RomaMultiLangPrimE project is based on the use of multiliteracies and multimodalities for language learning. These innovative pedagogical tools and strategies focus on enabling Roma learners to communicate effectively and express their ideas and emotions using different media and formats, which go beyond written and spoken language.
To achieve this goal, the project focuses on the integration of different types of media, such as images, sounds, videos and interactive technology, to create a more dynamic and engaging learning environment for students. The methodology also includes the use of games and playful activities that encourage students' active participation and allow them to learn while having fun.
In addition, the methodology focuses on the development of socio-emotional and problem-solving skills, which are fundamental to the academic and personal success of Roma students. The methodology also includes close collaboration with the students' parents and guardians to ensure that there is continuous support and follow-up both at home and in the classroom.
Full teachers play an important role in the implementation of RomaMultiLangPrimE, as they are responsible for integrating language and cultural skills into their discipline. Through collaboration with the foreign language teachers, the full teachers can design activities and tasks that enable students to apply their language skills in authentic contexts.

Enablers
Firstly, teacher education and training is a key facilitator for the implementation of RomaMultiLangPrimE. Teachers must be trained in the fundamental principles of the framework in order to be able to integrate language and cultural skills into their teaching.
Curriculum planning and design is another important facilitator. Curriculum planning should take into account the learning objectives of RomaMultiLangPrimE and how they will be integrated into the curriculum. Thirdly, the careful selection of teaching materials aligned with the RomaMultiLangPrimE objectives. These materials should allow for the integration of linguistic and cultural skills.
Finally, flexibility in the implementation of RomaMultiLangPrimE is an important facilitator, as it allows for the adaptation of the framework to the specific needs of the learners and the institution or teaching programme.
Barriers
RomaMultiLangPrimE is an integrated and communicative teaching approach that can improve foreign language teaching. However, its implementation and execution may face several barriers. Resistance to change on the part of teachers, who prefer their traditional approach to teaching, is one of the most common barriers. In addition, lack of adequate training, limited resources, inadequate assessment and lack of institutional support can also be major barriers.
To overcome these barriers, different strategies can be adopted. Teacher education and training is an important step to ensure proper implementation of the framework. Curricular planning and careful selection of teaching materials can ensure proper alignment with the learning objectives of RomaMultiLangPrimE. Flexibility in the implementation of the approach is also key to adapt to learners' needs and specific circumstances.
Grade of linkage with the Safe Education Model
The RomaMultiLangPrimE programme, by focusing on the integration of Roma children, contributes to the creation of an inclusive educational environment that promotes respect and acceptance of cultural and linguistic diversity.
In addition, the use of multiple literacies and multimodalities in the RomaMultiLangPrimE programme can contribute to children feeling more comfortable and confident in the classroom, as they can use different forms of expression to communicate and participate in the learning process. This can favour the development of bonding and attachment with their peers and teachers, as they feel recognised and valued in their forms of communication and expression. In summary, the RomaMultiLangPrimE programme can be a valuable tool for fostering bonding and attachment in the classroom by creating an inclusive educational environment that values and respects cultural and linguistic diversity.
Grade of linkage with the purpose of Let's Care
The RomaMultiLangPrimE programme could contribute to reducing early school leaving and school failure in the Roma community. Early primary education is a crucial stage for the development of skills and competences that are fundamental for success in education and in life in general. However, Roma children face significant barriers to accessing quality education, which can result in high rates of early school leaving and school failure.
The RomaMultiLangPrimE programme, by focusing on the development of language and multicultural skills, can help Roma children improve their academic performance and become more motivated and engaged in the learning process. Furthermore, by promoting an inclusive educational environment that is respectful of cultural diversity, the programme can help children feel more integrated and valued in the school environment, which in turn can reduce early school dropout rates.
Grade of evidence about impact and political relevance
There has been a pre-pilot phase during the school year 20/21 involving 98 students, followed by a final piloting phase on the school year 21/22 involving 127 students. The project has collected feedback for 31 teachers. The policy relevance of this programme lies in its focus on the realisation of the fundamental human right to inclusive, quality education, as recognised in the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Furthermore, by promoting inclusion and respect for cultural diversity, the programme can contribute to reducing social inequalities and promoting a fairer and more equitable society. The involvement of various European entities, such as universities, schools and inspectorates, can further strengthen its impact and policy relevance.
Reproducibility
The RomaMultiLangPrimE programme is replicable and can easily transfer the acquired knowledge to other educational and cultural contexts. The programme is based on innovative educational approaches and the use of digital technologies to support multilingual and multicultural learning in early primary education. Collaboration between various European entities in the implementation of the programme can enable the transfer of knowledge and the promotion of good educational practices in different countries. However, the transfer of knowledge and the replicability of the programme may depend on several factors, such as the adaptation of the programme to local needs and contexts, the adequate training of educational staff and the availability of resources needed for its implementation. Overall, the RomaMultiLangPrimE programme can serve as a model for promoting educational and cultural inclusion in different contexts and can be transferred to other countries and communities to improve the education of Roma children and other vulnerable groups.
