Interviews with Families
Description:
This series of interviews was conducted as part of a broader research effort to better understand the experiences, needs, and perspectives of families facing social, economic, and educational disadvantage across six European countries. The interviews, carried out with families from diverse backgrounds - including Roma communities, migrant households, single-parent families, and those raising children with disabilities - offer a candid, ground-level view of what it means to care for and support children in complex and often challenging circumstances.
These conversations explored a range of topics, from emotional wellbeing and school engagement to family dynamics and expectations for the future. They reveal not only the common struggles shared across borders but also the strength, resilience, and aspirations of caregivers determined to secure better opportunities for their children. The insights collected highlight systemic gaps in education and support, while also pointing toward practices and relationships that foster safety, inclusion, and trust.
The interviews presented on this page are not statistical summaries - they are stories. Through them, we aim to give voice to families whose experiences are too often overlooked in policymaking and institutional planning. Each interview provides valuable context for understanding how schools and communities can better respond to the realities of vulnerable children and their caregivers.
