In the LET'S CARE project we are implementing the PAR perspective, an innovative participatory and empowering research strategy for the subjects we are investigating. The work we have to carry out with children and adolescents is framed within the techniques of observation and conversation typical of ethnography, a central technique in qualitative methodologies.

For this purpose, we have chosen the SMAT technique, which more than meets all the requirements and implements them in an innovative and creative way. For us, it is a method for accessing children's subjectivity that is very useful for our analysis, but also for generating a process of self-awareness and empowerment in them.

The benefits of working with children are many, including the incorporation of new questions that are not open in the theoretical frameworks, or the precision in the definition of the problems, as stated by the founders of the technique. We are therefore going to introduce ourselves into a perception of children as active participants in the research (one could even say, following the indications of the PAR perspective, as co-researchers).

A total of 110 children from 4 to 14 years of age participated in the 6 countries (Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Spain) 71 of whom were girls (64%) and 40 boys (36%).

Agenda:

  • Introduction of the session;
  • Results of the SMAT analysis in the Let´s Project in the six countries (Bulgary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal and Spain);
  • Teachers review (socio-demographic, type of workshop, pictures, etc..);
  • Questions.
