National Scientific Conference “(Re)construction of social relations in the real and virtual worlds”

The Uniwersytet Ignatianum w Krakowie (UIK) attended the National Scientific Conference “(Re)construction of social relations in the real and virtual worlds” held on April 7th at the Faculty of Pedagogy of the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland. The conference was organised by the polish Department of Social Pedagogy, the Department of Research Methodology and Discourse Studies and the Department of Cultural Pedagogy.

During the conference, Prof. Ryszarda Cierzniewska from UIK held a speech titled “Relationship as the joy of everyday life – theoretical approach with exemplification of the effectiveness of pedagogical measures”. In this lecture, Prof. Ryszarda Cierzniewska explained that interpersonal relationships are crucial for the development and quality of life of every human being and have a significant impact on mental and physical health and resilience.

Based on recent research and theories, it is shown how to interpret and realise the support needs for building safe relationships among students. Theories of the ‘everyday world’ and the report of the world’s longest research on happiness conducted at Harvard by R. Waldinger and M. Zchulz were used. This was followed by the presentation of a pedagogical experiment (as an intervention in a crowded school classroom), in which pedagogical actions were important for building bonds between students. The eponymous joy of relationships was illustrated by statements from the participants and by sociometric research conducted after the experiment. A conclusion relevant to the pedagogical work is the fact of its effectiveness for building and strengthening peer relationships.
