On the 12th of June 2025, UIK attended the International Conference of Educators of Intercultural Education, a periodic scientific event that brings together researchers, teachers, educators, representatives of non-governmental organizations and policy makers involved in the field of intercultural education. The event is international in scope, with participants coming from both Poland and other European countries. The main goals of the conference are to exchange experiences, present research results and jointly develop solutions to foster the inclusion of students with migrant experience in educational systems.
During the scientific meeting, Dr hab. Ewa Sowa-Behtane (UIK) presented the paper: Community of Ukrainian students in a Polish elementary school. In this paper she argued that polish schools are spaces created by students representing national and ethnic minorities, immigrants and refugees. The purpose of the presentation was to present qualitative research conducted in one of Krakow’s elementary schools and to answer the following questions:
- Does the culture-community of Ukrainian students work in a Polish school?
- How does the culture-community of Ukrainian students function in a Polish school?
- What educational, cultural, linguistic and identity activities are implemented towards Ukrainian students in a Polish school?
Furthermore, the Let’s Care project was presented as an example of good practice and as a tool to support integration activities and the development of intercultural competence in the school environment.
